What Is Sildenafil / Viagra?

Sildenafil (generic Viagra) is a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor. It can be taken in addition to your daily dose of tadalafil to act as a booster for sexual intimacy. This is the most straightforward and best tolerated of our three rehabilitation options.

What Dose Should I Take?

Most often, we prescribe 50 mg of sildenafil be taken approximately an hour before sexual activity. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach. If 50 mg does not offer sufficient performance, you can increase it to 100 mg for added benefit. The 100 mg dose will typically be prescribed to you from the beginning. This is the most cost-effective option and allows you to break the tablets in half for your starter dose.

We remain conscious of the cost of medications and as such, suggest that you use GoodRX to find coupons that can reduce the price of these tablets to about $1 per pill. In most cases, sildenafil will not be covered by insurance. You may wish to call various pharmacies in your area to see which offers the lowest price on this medication. We have found that Kroger is often the cheapest.

Does Sildenafil Have Any Side Effects?

As with any medication, sildenafil may have certain side effects and interactions with other drugs. Like daily tadalafil, patients taking nitrate medications should not take these drugs. The result can be a significant and potentially dangerous drop in blood pressure. Therefore, if you are using nitroglycerin tablets, isosorbide mononitrate, or nitroglycerin patches, do not take these pills and speak to Dr. Kapadia.

Beyond this interaction, sildenafil can cause headaches at high doses. Some men may also experience a blue tint to their vision when exposed to certain light. If you experience these symptoms, know that they will decrease with time. However, if they are troublesome, we suggest you reduce your dose.

If at any point you have questions about your medication regimen during this phase, we ask that you contact the office. Please do not start or stop any medications without appropriate guidance.
